Recently, on the TV show “24″, Stargate Studios recreated a driving sequence through the streets of NYC.
Since the hand held camera shots inside the car moved from side to back angles continuously, we needed to shoot driving plates for 5 angles simultaneously. We worked withRodney Charters (DP for 24) and Curt von Badinski to create a 5 camera driving rig for the Canon 5D cameras. The car and actors were shot on green screen and the plates were shot in downtown LA that could double for NYC. Foreground actors, glass reflections, and multiple driving plates were then seamlessly composited by Stargate Studios.

Season 8 of “24″ takes place in NYC, although the vast majority shoots in LA. Due to scheduling and budget limitations, “24″ has extensively utilized Stargate’s Virtual Backlot™. Photographing NYC for 24, in a variety of dangerous and highly restrictive locations (i.e.;UN Compound, Wall Street, etc) has proven an ideal environment to test the range and versatility of the Canon EOS cameras …
Stargate is currently working with Rodney Charters and Curt von Badinski to build a Canon based production camera that is compatible with the latest cine lenses, auto controls (for camera and lenses) and can be gen-locked (w/time-code) for multiple camera shoots.
