Play Me I’m Yours: London 2010

by Simon Hilton on Tue 22 Jun 2010

Back by overwhelming popular demand!

21 street pianos will be placed throughout the ‘square mile’ and beyond from 22 June – 10 July 2010 to celebrate the City of London Festival. Located in public gardens, streets and squares the pianos are available for anyone to play.

Touring internationally since 2008, “Play Me, I’m Yours” is an artwork by artist Luke Jerram. This year it is being presented simultaneously in London and New York.  From 1st – 4th July, the City of London Festival’s Millennium Bridge piano will be connected live with a piano in Times Square.  Tickle the ivories across the Atlantic! Connect here with New York.

http://www.streetpianos.com is made for the public to post their comments, films and photos about the pianos. Whilst documenting each piano’s journey the website will connect the pianos and their communities across the city. After the event the pianos are offered as a donation to local schools and community groups.

21 Piano Nocturne

To celebrate the bicentenary of Polish composer Chopin, the City of London Festival opens on 21 June with the 21 Piano Nocturne by composer Richard Causton and artist Luke Jerram. The work draws on all 21 Nocturnes by Chopin and will be played by 21 pianists from the Guildhall School and the Centre for Young Musicians on the street pianos, brought together in the Guildhall Yard for this special night concert. After the concert they will be relocated, remaining on the streets of London for all to play throughout the three weeks of the Festival. With the kind support of the Polish Cultural Institute.
